The company launched GOG Galaxy, its gaming client, in 2018 as an optional component. GOG offers DRM free games and content, has a strong focus on classic games, and does not require the installation of a gaming client. GOG is different in several key aspects, however, and that makes it an interesting choice for some users. It is not the largest nor the store with the biggest selection of games. GOG GALAXY INTEGRATIONS HOW TOThere are people infinitely more inventive on how to screwup your cyber-day than I am.The game distribution service GOG flies a bit under the radar in the grand scheme of things. Or, they can send your session cookie somewhere else. Pass your credentials to a malicious server, log in from that malicious server, and proxy the legitimate requests between your GOG galaxy client and the platform (steam, uplay, whatever) through their own server, while doing something malicious on the side. Register a developer API key on Steam and steal your gift inventory Those services that do have 2FA can be bypassed by other means. Not all services have 2FA (RIP your 20 Epic Games freebies and your brother's fortnite account). A lot of people have Intel CPUs, and yet all these people were effected with Spectre/Meltdown.Īnd 2FA is not a magic bullet to ensure perfect security. Number of users can increase trust, but won't guarantee safety. GOG GALAXY INTEGRATIONS PASSWORDBut unless you are willing to audit it yourself, or it is well-known enough to be audited by professionals (KeePass is an open source password manager who tries to get independent audits done, for example) then you have no way to know something is safe. I propose a similar system for GOG Galaxy - the client should show how many clients have a particular extension installed. How do we vet browser extensions? By looking at how many downloads they have, and how many 1-star reviews. ![]() They have a limited API to the overall application, can do nefarious things internally, and are either open source or the source can be opened (I mean, extracted). Integrations are like your Browser Plugins/Extensions. And while even the 1st party launchers themselves aren't 100% safe, there's still some accountability from those 1st parties at the very least. I'd rather just stick to having separate launchers for the time being, the little convenience GoG2.0 provides is not the same worth as privacy & security. So essentially (if you value the security of your accounts) you're just stuck with GOG: good old gog. ![]() GOG GALAXY INTEGRATIONS PCNot to mention, Xbox integration is pretty much useless since A) you obviously can't launch Xbox games and B) PC games off the MS store don't require a launcher anyway. I was so excited for it, excited for GoG to be the company to actually spearhead a more unified gaming experience but only to have that excitement trashed. It's been super disappointing to be honest. While it does what it says, I was expecting GoG to be the 1s looking after everything, not hand balling it to some complete strangers & then saying Gog aren't responsible. I do feel like GoG kind of " mislead" us on the whole '1 launcher for all thing'. I originally linked my accounts when 2.0 came out but disconnected them pretty much a week or so after. Until GoG implement integrations themselves, I'm leaving the community ones alone. GOG GALAXY INTEGRATIONS CODEPeople say it's open source which makes it safer but there's still enough variables that pose security risks like what if someone doesn't catch security threats or malicious code in time? It's of no use if the community polices the community. As long as there's 3rd parties involved, nothing is 100% secure, far from it. ![]()
